How JSONCargo Powers a Multi-Carrier Container Tracking Platform
Container tracking platforms rely on accurate, structured data from multiple shipping lines.
JSONCargo provides multi-carrier container tracking and vessel data through a single API, allowing developers and logistics companies to build their own tracking tools, dashboards, monitoring systems, and customer-facing applications.
This case study shows how one client integrated JSONCargo data into a broader container tracking platform while independently developing and operating the product itself.
One API for container and vessel data
OpenSoft integrated JSONCargo as the primary data source behind its container tracking functionality. OpenSoft Cargo Tracking has been live since May 2026.
Through the JSONCargo API, the platform can retrieve container journey information,
shipment statuses, estimated arrival details, associated vessels, and available vessel
positions.
This allows OpenSoft to offer users a single search interface across multiple supported
shipping lines without maintaining separate integrations with each carrier.

Supporting multi-carrier tracking
JSONCargo provides a standardized way to retrieve tracking information from major global shipping lines through one integration.
OpenSoft currently uses JSONCargo data to support carriers including:
● MSC
● Maersk
● CMA CGM
● Hapag-Lloyd
● COSCO
● Evergreen
● ONE
● ZIM
● Yang Ming
● HMM
● PIL
The data returned by JSONCargo is processed and displayed through OpenSoft’s own
interfaceNo third-party packages are required, this build uses only the Go standard library (net/http, html/template, encoding/json).

How JSONCargo Supports OpenSoft’s Shipment Data Workflow
OpenSoft uses JSONCargo endpoints for both individual searches and batch container processing.
Its users can process up to 50 containers at once, while JSONCargo supplies the underlying shipment and vessel data for each successful lookup.
OpenSoft developed its own batch workflow, including progress tracking, data presentation, and Excel and CSV exports.
Connecting containers with vessels
When JSONCargo returns an associated vessel, OpenSoft can retrieve additional vessel information and display the available position on an interactive map.
The platform automatically identifies whether a vessel search contains an IMO number, MMSI number, or vessel name and sends the appropriate request to JSONCargo.
OpenSoft also developed its own caching system to avoid repeating vessel requests when the same vessel is searched using different identifiers.
Building additional functionality around JSONCargo data
JSONCargo supplies the external maritime data, while OpenSoft uses that data as part of a broader SaaS product.
OpenSoft independently developed features including:
● Interactive vessel maps
● Batch container processing
● Shipment history storage
● Automated email notifications
● Subscription management
● Leasing-prefix fallback logic
● Italian and English interfaces
● Customer accounts and billing
For example, OpenSoft stores previous shipment snapshots and compares them with newly retrieved JSONCargo data. Its own alerting system then notifies users when it detects changes to the ETA, shipment status, reported location, or associated vessel.
What this API container tracking integration demonstrates
The OpenSoft implementation demonstrates how JSONCargo can support:
● Multi-carrier container tracking
● Individual and batch shipment searches
● Vessel identification and position display
● Shipment monitoring and change detection
● Logistics dashboards and customer-facing SaaS products
JSONCargo does not provide the finished OpenSoft application. It provides the standardized maritime data that OpenSoft uses to power its own container tracking solution.
